Susan Marie Kairalla (1950-2017), passed away from complications associated with a three-year fight with pancreatic and then stomach cancer. She was endlessly grateful to the doctors, nurses, medical staff, and everyone who gifted her with the care and love that allowed her the time she gained. Being forced into type one diabetes after the removal of her pancreas she shared an even closer bond with her first born granddaughter who is also a type one diabetic. She dedicated a significant part of her life to advocating, as a volunteer, for the interests of the students of the Miami-Dade County Public School system. She spoke regularly before the School Board, worked directly with board members on numerous projects, and chaired/participated in a number of School Board subcommittees, including food and nutrition, audit, attendance/boundary, diversity/equity, among many others. Her four children — and six grandchildren — are proud products of Miami-Dade schools and take great inspiration from her tireless efforts to make a positive difference for all children. Despite the many set backs over the last few years, she remained positive and lived life to the fullest — advocating, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends. There is a sizable void in the world now that she is not in it, but that void is filled many times over with the love and inspiration she passed on to those around her. To continuing her missions of giving and caring for the health and education of the children we have begun this fund in her honor. Please join us as we continue her legacy.
