Capturing atmospheric CO2 at the scale of billions of tonnes a year through carbon removal interventions is a mandatory part of limiting climate warming to 2°C. The ocean could play a significant role in this effort. Hourglass believes that the scaled use of the ocean for climate mitigation can only, and should only, occur in the context of rigorous science evaluating both risks and benefits, and that this science should be made available to all stakeholders.
Hourglass is a nonprofit organization that conducts targeted, critical research to de-risk the key uncertainties on how to safely and effectively scale marine carbon dioxide removal techniques. We make all of our research publicly available. Our research is focused on two main pillars, (1) open-source tool building for responsible carbon removal project planning, permitting and Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) and (2) proof-of-concept field trials. Your donation will directly support these research initiatives. Thank you for helping us combat the climate crisis!
